Pioneer Park Days at Zolfo Spring

March 1 - 5 , 2006

Come sit on the porch and rock  while we teach you how our ancestors worked, lived and played!

Mountain dulcimers, guitar and mandolin create a festive mood for our visitors from the future.

On the back porch we have the picture pump, wash bucket and this mornin's wash hangin' out to dry.

Neighboring families have come from far and near to be close to the only fortified cabin in the area. There is safety in numbers. The families in the wilderness never know when they will be under attack.

They place their camps close to the cabin and go about their daily chores!

Let's see what this pioneer mother and wife has to say. "My husband and two sons have gone off hunting. I do hope they get a hog or a deer. If not we will have to do with a coon or a possum. This morning I have wrung the neck of my hen...she was a mean ol' thing and she has pecked me for the last time! I do hope she is more tender dead than she was alive."

The hen about a seven pounder is stuffed with spices and then hung over the coals by a cotton string. Once twisted around the hen will wind and rewind only needing a nudge every once in a while.

This gentleman is preparing his breakfast.

Another couple goes about their daily duties.
